Current research focuses on cardiovascular regulation and oxygen store utilization during diving in emperor penguins and elephant seals. Research interests range from molecular physiology (O2 free radical scavenging, myoglobin gene regulation, lung surfactant function) to pressure tolerance (avoidance of decompression sickness and nitrogen narcosis) and to foraging behavior at sea (remote video/digital cameras).
